Our flagship Park Slope-based group, founded in December 2012 as "5th Brooklyn", is now 5th Prospect Park. Chance Michaels is the Group Scoutmaster.
5th Prospect Park has scouts in all four youth sections - a Chipmunk Scurry (pre-K), an Otter Raft (grades K-3), a Timberwolf pack (3-5), and a Pathfinder troop (6-12). All youth sections are currently full, but please contact us for information about our wait list.
Spots are still available in our Rover Crew for adult scouts (ages 18+).
Our namesake park, opened in 1867, was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, the architects behind Central Park. Prospect Park is 526 acres of trees and fields, waterways and paths, ballfields and Brooklyn's only forest. Visited by more than 8 million people each year, it is a center of social activity and recreation for both Brooklynites and guests. We are honored to wear the name "Prospect Park" on our uniforms.
Our scout necker is primarily dark green. Green is a traditional color in Scouting, and reinforces our connection to our namesake park. To that green we have added a thin band of khaki.
This necker design is an homage to the Parks Department signs found all over Prospect Park and all across the city: green squares with tan and green borders. We are privileged to wear them.
